PRESS STATEMENT
Dear
Fans of Gombak United,
On behalf of the
Executive Committee, Coaches, Players and Staff, Gombak United Football
Club eagerly awaits the start of the 2010 S-League season.
The Club is confident
of building upon its best league finish in the 2009 season. Gombak
United completed the 2009 S-League season coming in third, narrowing
missing out on the runners up spot by three points. The fine print
reads positively too, with more points gained, more goals scored,
less conceded and less losses. Statistics that reflects an all round
improvement. This augurs well for the next season.
No doubt other
clubs have been strengthening their squads while Gombak United have
been relatively unchanged, the Club do look forward in locking horns
with the very best this coming season. This in many ways bodes well
for the team as familiarity breeds confidence and the Club is confident
of a positive showing this year, barring any major injuries to key
players.
Gombak United started
preparation for the new season with retaining the appointment of Darren
Stewart as Head Coach. Darren has been integral in our success last
season and I am confident the team will progress even further with
him this year. The other notable change is the return of Aikhena Obadin,
who had spent the last two seasons with the Young Lions and the Club
welcomes him home.
Gombak
United Football Club is also honored and privileged to have tied up
with Fujian Hongxing ERKE Sports Goods Co Ltd on a three year attire
and apparel sponsorship agreement starting from the 2010 S-League
season.

Fujian Hongxing
is major manufacturer and distributor of the ERKE brand of sports
attire, apparel and equipment in China and is a household name in
their local market, besides having substantial presence as well in
the international markets.
Synonymously associated
with quality, ERKE are sponsors of world class sporting events like
the ATP Shanghai Masters & Doha Open for tennis, the International
Table Tennis Federation Pro Events in Qatar, Germany and France and
is also associated with the LA Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers for
basketball in the NBA. Locally in China, ERKE sponsors the China Tennis
Grand Prix in Guangdong Province.
As a member of
the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI), ERKE
is also honored with the branding of one of China's Top 500 Most Valuable
Brands by the World Brand Laboratory in June 2009, ranking 137.
Gombak United FC
strongly believes this collaboration with ERKE will enable the brand
to make further inroads into the Far East markets, starting from Singapore
and there is no bigger platform than the S-League to achieve this
goal.
The Club will endeavor
to work closely with ERKE to help establish a benchmark for the brand
in Singapore. Projects like school outreach, organizing of football
tournaments and working closely with grassroots organizations are
some of the initiatives that will enable ERKE to reach out to a wider
audience within the local community.
For the coming
2010 S-League season, Gombak United will again strive for entertaining
football and its continuous pursuit of honors and improving from last
season will be its primary targets.
As a Club with
modest financial resources, it has been a great year in 2009 and with
a platform to improve.
Gombak United will
also strengthen its involvement in community outreach programs. This
is an area where the Club sees much growth potential and will dedicate
resources in achieving its set targets for this season. We hope to
build on our fan base through some initiatives planned and to enhance
the Club' image of one that is community oriented.
The Club wishes
all teams the best for the coming 2010 season and may fair play also
prevail.
Thank you.
